 Largest Mango Pie: Philippines sets world record

SAN CARLOS CITY, Philippines -- Residents of 86 villages in San Carlos City, Pangasinan took part in making a 100-square-meter mango pie, big enough to fill a gymnasium - which sets the world record for the Largest Mango Pie .

The Guinness world record for the largest pumpkin pieweighed 916.25 kg (2,020 lb) and measured 3.7 m (12 ft 1 in) long. It was made by New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the largest cheese pie, which weighed 862 kg (1,900 lbs 6 oz) and was made by the students of Educational Group AKMI in Thessalonica, Greece.

  Vice Mayor Joseres Resuello said the campaign for the world record-breaking feat aims to showcase to the international community San Carlos City's number one agricultural product -- mango.

  Hundreds of people partook in the Largest Mango Pie in The World, which took around 100 mango-filled baskets to make.

  A total of 400 pieces of mango pie, each weighing 10 kilos with a total cost of 400,000 Philippine Peso (about 60463 RMB) were displayed in a 100-square-meter table and shared by more than 1,200 residents in the city of San Carlos

  The city government is planning to conduct seminars and provide finance for citizens interested in entering the mango pie business.

  "Balak natin itong gawing one-town-one-product," said San Carlos City Mayor Julier Rusuello.

  San Carlos, whose old name was Binalatongan (which was derived from the wold "balatong" or mongo), was the first provincial capital of Pangasinan.
