  Smallest car: Chinese man breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

SHANGHAI , China -- A Shanghai man has taken to the streets with a homemade car that measures 23.6 inches long and cost him only $244 to assemble; Xu Zhiyun, 60, said his $244 mini car, which he designed and assembled himself, includes an engine, brakes, a gear-shifting system, front and rear lights, a horn and a sound system to play music; Xu said it took him about two years to build the vehicle, which measures 23.6 inches long, 13.8 inches wide and 15.7 inches tall,
setting the new world record for the Smallest Car, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .  Chinese man Xu Zhiyun has made a micro car by himself at his home in Shanghai. 60-year old Xu Zhiyun spent two years making the car at a cost of just under ?200 and despite being no bigger than an average-sized box, it contains a working engine, a gear system, a steering wheel, a seat, a horn and a sound system that is teed up with 500 songs.

The Guinness World Records' record for the smallest roadworthy car measures 63.5 cm (25 in) high, 65.41 cm (2 ft 1.75 in) wide and 126.47 cm (4 ft 1.75 in). It was created by Austin Coulson (USA) and measured in Carrollton, Texas, USA, on 7 September 2012.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the smallest radio controlled car; it is a 25 mm long model (1/90 perfect scale) of a Mercedes Benz Smart car developed by Michihiro Hino, Tokyo, Japan in 2002. Specification: -RC equipment: 45MHz belt PSD system Toy-RC 2ch -Battery:Micro-nickel hydrogen rechargeable battery. -By continuation operation time: full charge,it is about 15 minutes.

   Xu Zhiyun, 60, said his $244 mini car, which he designed and assembled himself, includes an engine, brakes, a gear-shifting system, front and rear lights, a horn and a sound system to play music.

   Xu said it took him about two years to build the vehicle, which measures 23.6 inches long, 13.8 inches wide and 15.7 inches tall. The homemade vehicle follows in the footsteps -- or tire treads -- of a replica Lamborghini roadster carved from mahogany by Yu Jietao of Putian, China.

  The roadster was outfitted with an electric engine and reaches a top speed of 18 mph.
