Most efficient electric car - world record
set by DeLaSalle students
KANSAS CITY, Mo., USA -- A group of high school students
from the DeLaSalle School
(under the direction of instructor Steve Rees
) and their mentors, including engineers
from Bridgestone Americas' Technical Center in Akron
,
Ohio, have just concluded tests on a student-built electric
car at Bridgestone's Texas Proving Grounds - with a reported
efficiency levels that would be the equivalent of more than
300 miles per gallon - which sets the new world record for
the
Most
efficient electric car
.

The World's
Most efficient electric car
, a former 2000 Lola Indy
racer, was rebuilt with electric components, a new ultra-lightweight
body, a driveline, etc. The students have developed a driveline,
electric propulsion system and full, ultra light-weight aerodynamic
body.
With sponsorship by Bridgestone, the Most
efficient electric car in The World
was tested at
Bridgestone's Texas Proving Grounds where it possibly set
a world record in efficiency at 300 miles per gallon equivalent.
"The finished car will be a single seat
urban commuter that will operate at commuter speeds," according
to a blog on the project.
"The
goal is to show how simplicity and lightweight construction
can impact performance and energy efficiency. The vehicle
will weigh less than 1,500 pounds, which is half the weight
of 98% of most electric vehicles on the road today. The results
from their testing should be an interesting comparison to
other electric cars."

The World's
Most efficient electric car
, which is mounted on Bridgestone
Ecopia EP100 tires, showed remarkable results in testing—
test runs reported efficiency levels that would be the equivalent
of more than 300 miles per gallon.
The all-electric vehicle was built
as a class project under the direction of instructor Steve
Rees. The team has asked the Guinness Book of Records to check
if they qualify for a world record for lowest equivalent fuel
consumption.
