Most Nativity scenes on display: South Florida church sets world record
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., USA--TheOasis Churchin Pembroke Pines displayed 2,150 nativity scenes in their church sanctuary,in the form of figurines, tapestries, Christmas tree ornaments and crayon-drawn pictures - setting the new world record for theMost Nativity scenes on display at one time.
The displays come from all over the world, just as the church's 2,500 members hail from 84 countries.
Pastor James brown of theOasis Churchsaid three counters and a notary public verified the collection beat the 1,802 Guinness World Record set by an Italian collector.
"We didn't just break the record -- we broke it big," Brown said. He said paperwork is being submitted to Guinness World records.
The Guinness world record for the longest serving altar boy was set by Thomas Sunderland (UK, b 23 March 1913) who began serving at St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, UK at the age of six in 1919 and continues to do so in 2005, a total of 86 years.
According to Guinness World Records, the Largest collection of commemorative church plates belongs to Tom and Barbara Southwell of Memphis, Tennesee, USA, who have a collection of 1,206 methodist church plates.
