  Largest Waltz - world record set in Tuzla

  TUZLA, Bosnia -- 1,521 couples danced for five minutes, in the northeastern Bosnian town of Tuzla, during an event organized by Zlatko Berbic , the owner of the local radio station Kameleon - setting the new world record for the Largest Waltz .

   “We had 1,521 couples dancing and I believe we broke the world record for the Largest Waltz ,” Zlatko Berbic , the owner of the local radio station Kameleon , which organised the giant dance, told Balkan Insight.

   The previous Guinness world record for the the largest waltz was set in 2009 in the British city of Bath when 315 couples waltzed in one of the central squares.

   Berbic said that the number of dance couples was in fact much higher, but the central Freedom Square where the “official” part of the event was organised had to be sealed off in order for dancers to have enough space to move.

   “All of Tuzla danced. I believe 25,000 people danced in the streets,” Berbic said.

   Tuzla, which already holds the world record for simultaneous kissing , has been preparing for the event for months.

   All generations of residents, ranging from primary school children to pensioners, have been taking dancing lessons hoping that they will help their city waltz its way into the record books.

    The city authorities and public schools have supported the organisers and the waltz has been included in the school curriculum as part of physical education classes.
