  Longest curling marathon: Dumfries curlers broke Guinness world record

Dumfries, UK -- A group of curlers from Dumfries regained their world record for the Longest curling marathon by playing continuously for 73 hours 6 minutes and 52 seconds at Dumfries Ice Bowl, while also raising funds for the club and to develop curling in the area , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

 The Guinness world record for the longest marathon playing curling was 61 hr 39 min 33 sec, and was achieved by a group of 10 players from the Dumfries Ice Bowl in Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway, UK.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the oldest active curler, set by Stephen Gittus (Canada, b. 17 February 1910), who continued to play in competitions on a regular basis at the Kamloops Curling Club in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, as of 18 November 2010.

  The winning team was made up of Chris Jardine, David Owen, Thomas Sloan, Chalmers Porteous, Graham Black, Graham Sloan, Neil Henderson, Ruaraidh Whyte, Scott Robertson, and Stuart Henderson.

  The ten curlers set the world record last year, however a team from Campbell River in Canada beat their time and took the crown.

   The mammoth game, at Dumfries Ice Bowl, also raised funds for the club and to develop curling in the area.
