The previous Guinness world record for the Longest Loaf of Bread was 1211.6m. It was baked in Vagos (Portugal) in 2005.

Eighteen bakers in Umberto, Italy, cooked through the night using 2,500 lbs of flour to create the loaf in 2,000 different sections to become the new World record-holders.

The Longest Loaf of Bread in The World was certified by the Notary Evangelist Octavian.

And if anyone was wondering whether a loaf that big would be a panini in the neck to get rid off, head chef Carmelo Avola turned it into a snack for hundreds of helpers.

He told the Austrian Times: "We used some rosemary, some olive oil and a little cheese and we toasted as much as we could," he explained.

The town of Modica and Avis organized the world record attempt for the Longest Loaf of Bread in The World (which relies on the patronage of the province of Ragusa, the Camcom Ragusa, Coldiretti and Confcommercio) in the heart of the Old City.
