Largest Human Ribbon-world record set in Fort Knox

FORT KNOX, KY, USA -- More than 2,200 people gathered in tightly as the early morning chill left the air, and with some effort, worked together and set the world record for the   Largest Human Ribbon (largest human formation of a yellow ribbon) .

Col. Rick Schwartz, garrison commander of Fort Knox , joked with the crowd that it was harder to herd the group than it was to herd cats.

Those constructing the ribbon were sheathed in yellow shirts, while soldiers stood outside the ribbon, forming a camouflage outline.

Fort Knox Family Morale , Recreation and Welfare, organized the event.

Fort Knox ’s tally far outpaces the 1,358 people who gathered in May at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach in Germany to take the record from then record holders Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.

Anna Hoop, a spokeswoman for Army Community Service, said she was amazed by the turnout with only seven weeks of preparation time.

Hoop helped coordinate the event after the idea was presented to her supervisor to attempt the record-breaking feat. Once word reached around the post, the idea went into the planning stages. Hoop said everyone presented with the idea was in full support of it.

As she surveyed the scene, Hoop said the turnout was evidence of a sincere love for America’s soldiers.

“I see a lot of heart,” she said. In addition to breaking the record, Hoop said earlier this week that the ribbon ceremony was a tribute to the Month of the Military Family, recognizing the sacrifices and the hard work invested by military families.
