  Largest group of carol singers: Nigeria breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

LAGOS, Nigeria -- The Akwa Ibom State choral group in in south-eastern Nigeria has broken the Guinness World Records' world record for the largest number of Christmas carol singers in the world; The unity choir, a 25,272 man-choral group, broke the record at a concert in the Uyo Township Stadium; the choir beat the Guinness World Records' record set by a group known as CENTI in Bogota, Columbia, which had 15,674 carol singers, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest group of carol singers was 25,272 by Godswill Akpabio unity choir (Nigeria) at the Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom,Nigeria, on 13 December 2014.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest group of carol singers in multiple locations; it consisted of 18,100 participants at 196 venues throughout the UK, achieved by Premier Christian Radio (UK) on 18 December 2011.

   The Unity Choir sang a medley of The First Noel, Joy to the World, O Christmas Tree, Hark the Herald the Angels Sing, Once in Royal David's City and O Come All Ye Faithful.

   The performance lasted for more than 20 minutes.

     An elated Governor Godswill Akpabio broke the news to the people of the state saying, "This month, we broke the Guinness World Records' record for the largest number of carol singers ever in the world.

   "This momentous feat was achieved when Akwa Ibom people drawn from all the nooks and crannies of the state came together in the spirit of love and brotherhood.
    I believe that if we imbibe the virtue of love and stand together in brotherhood in the New Year, we would keep setting records and the walls of division, which have been erected by some selfish politicians, would tumble down."
