The previous Guinness world record for the Most People Hula Hooping had stood at 342.

Participants were split into their classes and moderated by their teachers as they attempted to keep their hula hoop spinning for two minutes whilst continuously dancing.

Acting as independent witnesses on the day were celebrity chef Mat Follas and defeated Lib-dem parliamentary candidate Sue Farrant who was at the event with a Channel Four film crew.

In a trial run the previous week the school had fallen short of their target but the pupils pulled through when it mattered.

Organiser Gilly Poulten said: “Seeing the children’s faces, I have to say, it was all worth it. It was a lovely thing to do and to see the whole school out there taking part was excellent.

“To get a world record is quite unique and for the whole school to be part of that makes it that extra bit special.

“I said never again after the event but maybe if the students can come up with a suitable idea we will take a look at it but I don’t think there are many about which can involve everyone like that.”
