  Oldest bowler: Jean Cowles breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

SPALDING, UK -- 95-year-old Jean Ella Cowles, (b. 31 August 1917, UK), of Parkside Crescent, Spalding, is still actively and competes as a member of Spalding and District Indoor Bowls Club in Spalding, Lincolnshire, UK - setting the new world record for the Oldest indoor bowler, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the oldest indoor bowls player was set by Jean Ella Cowles (b. 31 August 1917, UK), who at 94 years, 6 months and 1 day still actively competes as a member of Spalding and District Indoor Bowls Club in Spalding, Lincolnshire, UK.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest outdoor bowls marathon: 170 hr 3 min - set by six members of Goulburn Railway Bowling Club (Australia) in Goulburn, NSW, Australia.

  Jean (95) was presented with her world record certificate by Coun Michael Seymour, chairman of South Holland District Council.

  Spalding & District Indoor Bowls Club, which meets at the Castle Sports Complex in the town, has members in their 80s and 90s who know exactly what it is that's keeping them going – bowling, mixing with other people of all ages and joining in some of the club's friendly social activities.

  "It's kept me going," said Jean. "It makes life worth living in a lot of ways. If I am feeling a little bit down or in the dumps I come here and it's a fantastic place for friendship, fun and good exercise. I am still bowling, though not as good as I was. I have to have a stick to hold me up now."

  Jean began playing when she retired at 60 and was looking for something to do, and so has played an astonishing 35 years, slightly longer than fellow member Jamie Digby (94), of Woolram Wygate, Spalding.
