The previous Guinness world record for the most people arm wrestlingwas 206 people who took part in the Bulldog Challenge organised by Bulldog Gin in London, UK.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the heaviest truck pulled with an arm wrestling move, whichweighed 8,721.6 kg (19,227.8 lb) and was achieved by René Richter (Czech Republic) at the Vienna Recordia event in Vienna, Austria.
Members of the Staples community joined together for the record attempt to raise funds for the Staples Service League for Boys (SLOBs) and its Service Sunday, the group's annual day of service in the community.
The SLOBS' world record attempt aims to raise $10,000 to fund construction projects the service group plans on behalf of organizations and individuals.
On the first Sunday in May, all SLOB families come out to perform construction, landscaping, and painting projects for ABC House, Project Return, the Department of Human Services, and Homes with Hope.
The fundraising goal is $10,000—the amount needed to cover the cost of supplies. The entry fee for today's event was $5 per person.
Ann Marie Flynn, a former Olympic high jumper who now competes at hammer throwing, one of two adjudicators for the record attempt, said:" ..you never know what other doors it's going to open," she said. "It might get everyone involved in it figuring `What else can we do?' "
