VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, USA -- 1,086 people gathered at the 17th Street Boardwalk in Virginia Beach, Va., d
uring an event organized by Excalibur Gymnastics; in unison, 1,086 pairs of feet flew into the air, setting the new world record for most people performing cartwheels at the same time, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

 The Guinness world record for the most people performing cartwheels at the same time was 482, in an event organised by Gym XL Amersfoort and Nika Hoogland gymnastic club in Schothorst, Netherlands.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for most cartwheels without hands in one minute; it is 45 and was achieved by Zhang Ziyi (China) on the set of CCTV Guinness World Records Special in Beijing, China.

Excalibur Gymnastics organized the attempt as part of an international gymnastics competition this weekend at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

  Virginia Beach is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world. It is located at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the longest bridge-tunnel complex in the world.
