First compostable bathing suit: designer Linda Loudermilk sets world record

MIAMI, FL, USA -- Swim Week on South Beach in Miami included Luxury Eco™ designer Linda Loudermilk revealing the world's first compostable bathing suit on the Haute Natured runway, made out of plant starch, which according to Loudermilk, will decompose completely within 180 days under soil.

Derived from plant starch, the two-piece made its debut at the HauteNatured swimwear show at Miami Swim Week. The designer said it will not dissolve while you're swimming. All you have to do is bury it when you're done and, within about six months, it'll become dirt. ( enlarge photo )

The Guinness world record for the most items of clothing collected for recycling is 33,088 pairs of jeans collected by National Geographic Kids Magazine.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most plastic bags recycled in 8 hours: 120,000, achieved by Consorzio SEA (Italy) in Fossano, Italy

"You can use it again or you can throw it away," said Loudermilk, a pioneer of the eco-fashion movement.
"It's very inexpensive, so it's something you can give to your guests but it has a fashion forward look."

Haute Natured, presented by Mogul Events and ecosystM, featured a "walk-on-water" runway that showcased the latest eco-friendly swimwear collections from Eco Swim, Linda Loudermilk, Meadow and MAE Couture—all to raise environmental awareness and benefit the Seakeeper's Society for marine research and ocean conservation.

The group of designers also featured sustainable swimwear designs made from wood pulp, hemp and bamboo, as well as from recycled plastic bottles, upcycled factory scraps of cotton and nylon and repurposed material such as military parachutes.

"This is the new meaning of luxury," said Loudermilk. "How many Gucci glasses and Louis Vuitton bags and products can you have? The luxury eco movement is giving people a way to be proud of what they're choosing to wear."
