Guinness World Records recognized the world record for the oldest regular ice hockey player: Klaus Simon (Germany, b. 19 December 1940), who currently plays ice hockey for Club Osterode, in Braunlage, Germany, aged 69.

The Guinness world record for the most games played in a professional ice hockey career is 2421 games by Gordon `Gordie' Howe (Canada) (b. March 31, 1928) from 1946 to 1980.

The record-breaking attempt was part of this year's Kimmett Cup pond hockey tournament, which is held in memory of Lindsay Kimmett. The University of Calgary medical student died in a car crash near her parents' house in 2008.

According to The Calgary Herald, nearly 200 goals were scored during the five-aside continuous match.

Reid Kimmett, Lindsay's youngest brother, said the family wanted to do something special for the tournament's fifth anniversary.

Reid said the event was on track to bring in $100,000 for Right to Play, an international charity that funds sport-based programs for kids in communities facing war, poverty and disease.
