  Youngest Golfer to Score a Hole-in-One - Eleanor Gamble sets world record

  LONDON, UK  -- Eleanor Gamble , 5, of West Wratting, Cambs, aced the 86-yard (78-metre) par-three sixth hole at Cambridge Lakes golf course - setting the new world record for the Youngest Golfer to Score a Hole-in-One .

    ‘She got the ball over the water and then it hopped over a bunker and someone shouted that she had got it in,’ said her 34-year-old father, David. 'There were about 15 people on the tee watching,' said Mr Gamble.

The previous Guinness world record holder for the Youngest Golfer to Score a Hole-in-One was an eight-year-old girl from America.

   The 3ft 5in youngster managed to drive her ball 86 yards over a lake, round a bunker and straight into a cup on the par three hole - to rapturous applause from fellow golfers.

   Eleanor was competing in an Easter Pairs competition with her 10-year-old brother Jacob, who represents the county at the under-12 level.

   To make Eleanor's day even more special she performed the stunt in front of her grandparents and great-grandmother, who had travelled to Cambridgeshire from Ireland.

   Eleanor said: 'I was very excited. 'I am going to keep playing golf, and see if I will be better than my brother.'

   Her mother Wendy, 39, a dental hygienist, told how Eleanor took up golf two years ago. 'She doesn't have much idea how incredible this is,' she said. 'She will realise more when she grows up.'

     David, who runs his own pharmaceutical firm, said: “She keeps saying ‘I can’t believe I got a hole-in-one’.

    Bob Barnes, who owns the course in Cambridge, said: ‘This is the first time anything like this has happened.’
