  Youngest pilot to fly around the world: Carlo Schmidt sets world record (PICS & VIDEOS)

Dübendorf, Switzerland--Switzerland's Carlo Schmidt, 22, covered 40,000 miles in his Cessna, visiting 21 countries and staying in the air for a total of 110 hours - setting the new world record for the youngest pilot to ever fly around the world , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the
youngest person to trek overland to the South Pole without the use of dogs or motorised vehicles was set by Canadian Sarah Ann McNair-Landry, who was 18 when she reached the Pole on January 11, 2005. She made the 1,100-kilometre kite-assisted trip as part of an unsupported expedition led by her mother.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the youngest person to have visited both geographical poles, set by Jonathan Silverman (USA) (b. 13 June 1990), who reached the North Pole on 25 July 1999 and the South Pole on 10 January 2002, aged 11 years 211 days.

  The 22-year-old man began his journey on July 11th and covered 40,000 miles, visiting 21 countries and staying in the air for a total of 110 hours.

  He broke the record of Barrington Irving as youngest solo pilot to fly around the world.

  Upon returning home his Cessna won the applause of about two thousand people, who had gathered to welcome him home, when it landed on Sunday in his hometown of Dübendorf.

  The young man said that he was going to work as a flight instructor or engage in air transportation in the future.
