The Guinness world record for the Oldest person to climb Mt Everest (female) was set by Tamae Watanabe (Japan) (b. 21 November 1938), who reached the summit of Mt Everest at the age of 63 years 177 days at 9:55 a.m. on 16 May 2002, becoming the oldest woman ever to do so.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Oldest person to climb Mt Eevrest, set by Min Bahadur Sherchan (Nepal, b.20 June 1931), who reached the highest point on Earth at the age of 76 years 340 days.

At the age of 106, Shochi is now recognized as the world's oldest person to complete a trip around the world through the use of public transportation systems.

Celebrating his birthday on Thurdsay with an arrival back in Japan, he was welcomed and cheered by his family and supporters at the Fukuoka airport.

This trip saw him leave one month ago, on July 16th, and visit six countries on his lecture tour, including Bulgaria, Canada, and South Africa, traveling a total distance of 56,700 kilometers (35,232 miles).

The latest trip was Shochi's seventh lecture tour.

Shochi, who celebrated his 106th birthday last week, said: "In my whole life, I have never said 'I'm tired'."
