The Guinness world record for the fastest time to visit all 194 United Nations member countries is 3 years 3 months and 6 days and was achieved by Yili Liu (USA).

Guinness World Records also recognized the longest journey by car using alternative fuel: 3,8137 km (2,3697.19 miles), achieved by Rainer Zietlow, Florian Hilpert, Falk Gunold, Franz Janusiewicz (all Germany) with a Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel using natural gas.

Through his travels between September 23 2007 and December 29 2010 he had set the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Time to visit all sovereign countries and the World Record for the First Person to visit all UN member countries as a solo traveler .

Since then, he has visited South Sudan, both before and after it became the newest United Nations member country on July 14th 2011.

He visited Antarctica in late February and early March 2011.

He visited all these countries legally, with scheduled public transportation, as a solo traveler, and with at least an overnight stay in each country, and he paid all the travel expenses with his own savings.

He has also visited numerous territories, dependencies, and places with partial international recognition for their declared independence.

He tries to visit at least one university in each country he visits if possible.

His travels merge his passion for global exploration and his profession as a teacher, researcher, and practitioner in human factors engineering (the study and improvement of human-machine-environment relationships) and psychology (the study of mind and behavior).

These travels empower and enrich his activities in education, research, service, professional engagement, and daily life.
