Longest Trip In A Production Electric Car: Tesla Model S P85D breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)
Rødekro, Denmark -- Tesla Model S owner Bjørn Nyland and his friend Morgan Tørvolt have set a hypermiling range record for the Model S P85D; the car drove 728.7 km, (452.8 miles) on a single charge, setting the new world record for the Longest trip in a production electric car, according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest parade of electric cars consisted of 241 cars and was organised by Stephane Pascalon (Canada) in Montreal, Canada, on 18 April 2015. Twelve types of electric car took part in this parade, including the Nissan Leaf, the Ford Focus EV, the Chevrolet Spark EV and the Tesla Model S P85D.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most countries visited by electric car on a single charge; it is 6, and was achieved by Frederik Van Overloop (Belgium) in a Tesla Model S on 2 May 2015. Frederik began his journey in Italy at 9.43 am and drove through France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria before arriving in Germany at 7.34 pm. The journey covered 471.5 km (292 miles).
The car has an EPA-certified rating of 253 miles per charge, but the two Tesla owners drove 452.8 miles at a speed of 24.2 miles per hour.
The two men took turns driving in shifts of several hours. Total drive time was 18 hours and 40 minutes.
The start and stop point was Rodekro, Denmark.
The Tesla Model S P85D comes with an 85-kWh battery pack which is the largest that Tesla offers on their model S at the moment.
The previous world record for the longest distance traveled in the Model S with an 85-kWh battery pack was set back in 2013 by David and Adam Metcalf, the distance they managed was 423.5 miles.
The Model S drive wasn't the only major Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) feat that Mr. Nyland completed in recent weeks.
He was also the first winner of the firm's referral program, and he'll get a free Model X just as soon as the 10 people he signed up to buy the Model S get take the shipment of their EV.
His total energy usage came down to 108 Wh/km, and he used a total of 77.5kWh in his entire journey.
