 Longest passenger jet: Boeing 747-8 sets world record (Video)

LE BOURGET, France -- Boeing flew some of its newest airplanes to the Paris Air Show, including the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental passenger jet; the 250-foot-long plane sets the world record for the Longest passenger jet .

The Guinness world record for the Fastest selling airliner was set by the Boeing 787, Dreamliner, the passenger jet from Boeing. It was launched in April 2004 and, by the time of its roll out on 8 June 2007, it had become the fastest selling wide body airliner in history with 677 orders.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the smallest jet aircraft: the home-built Bede BD-5J Microjet owned by Juan Jimenez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, which weighs 162 kg (358 lb), is 3.7 m (12 ft) long, has a 5.7 m (17 ft) wingspan, and can fly at 483 km/h (300 mph).

 In comparison to its predecessor, the new 747-8 features improved performance in terms of payload, range, environmental compliance, noise reduction and fuel efficiency with modern GEnx engines from General Electric.

  It is 5.6 metres longer than the 747?400 and offers a maximum payload capacity of 134 tonnes compared to the 113 tonnes of the former model.

  Just before the show, the biggest and oldest of its kind anywhere in the world, kicked off at Le Bourget Airport, Boeing announced that orders had been placed for 17 of the new jumbo jet.
