 Largest raft of canoes and kayaks: Suttons Bay 'Floatilla' breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

SUTTONS BAY, MI, USA -- Organizers of the Suttons Bay Floatilla 2013 have snagged a World Record for the largest raft of canoes and kayaks ever to float together; the flotilla gathering was a fundraiser for Suttons Bay Public Schools and attracted 2,099 watercraft of many sizes and colors, setting the new world record for the Largest raft of canoes and kayaks, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The previous Guinness World Records' record for the largest raft of canoes and kayaks consisted of 1,902 boats and was achieved at the event "One Square Mile of Hope" which took place on Fourth Lake in Inlet, New York, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most canoes/kayaks launched simultaneously; it is 308 and was achieved by the Royal Hobart Regatta Association (Australia) at Bellerive Beach in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

  Per the Guinness World Records rules, the flotilla had to be a contiguous floating raft of touching kayaks and canoes held together for at least 30 seconds, the MLive reported.

  The count was verified using aerial photos.

  Cooperative weather was a bonus, this year.

  The event raised $50,000 for Suttons Bay Public Schools.
