  Largest parade of snowmobiles: Albertans break Guinness World Records world record (VIDEO)

Whitecourt, AL, Canada -- More than 1,000 snowmobilers turned up in Whitecourt, hoping to break the Guinness World Records world record for the world's largest parade of snowmobiles; the unofficial tally of 1,044 Ski-doos smashes the previous Guinness World Records record of 847 sleds that was held by a group in Ontario and setting the new world record for the Largest parade of snowmobiles, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest parade of snowmobiles consisted of 820 snowmobiles which completed a 46.6 km (29 mile) course at Roseau, Minnesota, USA, on 21 February 2004, during the 6th Annual Frostbite Days event arranged by the Roseau County Trailblazers Snowmobile Club.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest snowmobile journey; it totalled 19,574.45 km (12,163 m) driven by Robert G. Davis (USA) on his Yamaha RS Venture snowmobile, during a 60 day period between 11 January 2008 and 11 March 2008.

    According to the World Snowmobile Invasion website, the festival celebrates six coutries that love snowmobiling: Canada, the USA, Finland, Sweden, Japan and Norway.

    Organizer Dave Tourcotte says 1,044 drivers on power sleds turned out in Whitecourt looking to set a new high mark for most snowmobiles in a parade.

    The Whitecourt group was required to parade along a 3.2-kilometre route, as per Guinness World Records regulations, but riders ended up travelling more than four kilometres.

    Locally the RCMP, Peace Officers, paramedics and emergency services took part. As did local politicians, the mayor of Whitecourt, Maryann Chichak, mayor of Woodlands County, Jim Rennie and the MLA for Whitecourt - Ste. Anne, George VanderBurg.
    Seven-time winter X-Games gold medallist, American, Levi Lavallee was there too.

    The World Snowmobile Invasion is a five-day long snowmobile showcase and event organized by the Trailblazers in Whitecourt.
