 Fastest Standing Half Mile: Hennessey Ford GT breaks world record (PICS & Video)

Houston, TX, USA -- Owned by Mark Heidaker and driven by Sean Kennedy, the twin-turbo Ford GT ran 212.9mph (341km/h) at the Houston Half Mile Shootout - setting the new world record for the Fastest Standing Half Mile, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the fastest standing mile in a street car was 223.42 mph, achieved by Johnny Bohmer, owner of Performance Power Racing (USA) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, on 16 June 2011. Johnny used a 2006 Ford GT to set the record.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the fastest car on ice: 331.61 km/h (206.05 mph), achieved by Janne Laitinen (Finland), on behalf of Nokian Tyres (Finland), in the Gulf of Bothnia (Frozen Sea), Finland.

  Owned by Mark Heidaker and driven by Sean Kennedy, the Ford GT is powered with twin Precision turbochargers breathing into a racing engineered 5.4 liter Accufab Racing engine.

  It runs on 117 octane racing gasoline while the engine and power management as well as the data acquisition system is controlled by MoTeC tuner and racing consultant, Shane Tecklenburg of Huntington Beach, California.
