HOUSTON, TX, USA -- The Hennessey Venom GT ran from 0-300km/h in an average time of just 13.63 seconds, at Ellington Airport in Texas,

The Guinness world record for the fastest production car is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, which achieved a two-way timed speed of 431.072 km/h (267.86 mph) at the Volkswagen proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien near Wolfsburg, Germany.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the fastest car powered by biogas: 364.6 km/h (226.55 mph) - achieved by driver Jürgen Hohenester and TUEV Rheinland's Competence Center for Alternative Fuels in Saarbruecken (both Germany) at the ATP testing facilities in Papenburg, Germany.

The runs were made at Ellington Airport, southeast of Houston.

The car was the seventh vehicle produced, stretching the term "quickest production vehicle" to its semantic limits.

The Venom GT is powered by a mid-mounted twin-turbo 1244-hp 7.0-liter small-block Chevrolet V-8 combined with a claimed curb weight of just 2743 pounds, which gives the supercar a power-to-weight ratio of 2.2 pounds per horsepower.

"We are exceptionally proud of our team at HPE who helped to make this new World Record possible," said company founder and president John Hennessey.

"This is just the first of several validation tests designed to show the world what our special car is all about -- being the fastest. Period."

According to Hennessey, the company only plans to produce 29 Venom GTs, a third of which have already been spoken for at a cost of $1.2 million each.
Each vehicle is custom built and takes about six months to complete.
