Fastest electric-powered drag racer doing 0-60mph: Beetle sets world record (Video)
Northampton, UK -- The Black Current, constructed from a 1965 VW Beetle and an old milk float, created by brothers Olly and Sam Younghas beaten a million pound Bugatti Veyron in a drag race; racing from zero to 60 miles per hour in 1.6 seconds it set a world record for Fastest electric-powered drag racer doing 0-60mph

The Guinness world record for the Fastest 0-60 mph (96.56 km/h) acceleration by an electric kart
is 3.4 seconds. The kart was built by Linde Material Handling and driven by Andreas Wolf (Germany) at the Motorsport Arena, in Oschersleben, Germany.
Guinness World Records recognized The fastest car powered by dry cell batteries: the Oxyride Racer, which achieved an average speed of 105.95 km/h (65.83 mph).It was set by the Oxyride Speed Challenge Team consisting of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and Osaka Sangyo University, both Japan.
According to The Telegraph, the Volkswagen, created by Olly Young and his brother Sam from parts of an old milk float and powered by batteries, won the top prize for its impressive performance in a alternative energy racing tournament.
Speaking to The Metro, Berkshire resident Olly Young, 34, said: "You can't imagine how fast it is, it's pretty hard to explain. It felt absolutely awesome."
As well as winning the zero emissions final, the dragster also secured a world record at the Santa Pod raceway in Northamptonshire when it covered 400 metres in less than ten seconds.
But
the Young brothers believe the vehicle, powered by 60 12-volt motorcycle batteries, can be made faster still.
The car's performance at the Alternative Energy Racing tournament earned its makers top prize in the zero emissions final.
'You can't imagine how fast it is – it's pretty hard to explain. It felt absolutely awesome,' said designer Olly Young, 34. He created the vehicle with his brother, Sam, 30, at their Berkshire workshop.
