The Guinness world record for the Fastest 0-60 mph (96.56 km/h) acceleration by an electric kart is 3.4 seconds. The kart was built by Linde Material Handling and driven by Andreas Wolf (Germany) at the Motorsport Arena, in Oschersleben, Germany.

According to The Telegraph, the Volkswagen, created by Olly Young and his brother Sam from parts of an old milk float and powered by batteries, won the top prize for its impressive performance in a alternative energy racing tournament.

Speaking to The Metro, Berkshire resident Olly Young, 34, said: "You can't imagine how fast it is, it's pretty hard to explain. It felt absolutely awesome."

As well as winning the zero emissions final, the dragster also secured a world record at the Santa Pod raceway in Northamptonshire when it covered 400 metres in less than ten seconds.
