  Fastest 0-100 km/h acceleration - electric car: University of Stuttgart broke Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

ZURICH, Switzerland -- A team of University of Stuttgart students have set a world record for acceleration from 0-100 kmph in 1.779 seconds for an electric vehicle; the record was achieved by AMZ Racing (Switzerland) at the Dübendorf Airfield, Zurich, Switzerland,
according to the World Record Academy .
 The GreenTeam Formula Student electric racing car E0711-5 accelerated from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 1.779 seconds, smashing the previous record by 0.006 seconds.

The Guinness World Records' record for the Fastest 0-60 mph (96.56 km/h) acceleration by an electric kart is 3.4 seconds. The kart was built by Linde Material Handling and driven by Andreas Wolf (Germany) at the Motorsport Arena, in Oschersleben, Germany, on 24 April 2011.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the fastest time to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in an electric car; it is 1.785 seconds and was achieved by AMZ Racing (Switzerland) at the Dübendorf Airfield, Zurich, Switzerland, on 3 November 2014.

    The previous Guinness World Records world record fastest time to accelerate from 0-100 kmph for an electric car was 1.785 seconds.

     The speed was measured in two consecutive runs in opposite directions.

   The GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart e.V team used a lightweight 100kw all-wheel drive vehicle designed to race in Formula Student competitions to set the record.

    The vehicle is powered by four motors and a 6.62kWh battery pack.

    Formula Student is a special racing series reserved for race cars designed and built by students at technical universities all around Europe. It is meant to encourage innovation and provide a training ground for young engineers who will be designing the cars of tomorrow.
