  Longest Operation of Thermal Power Plant Without Breakdowns: Boryeong Plant sets world record

SEOUL, South Korea -- The Boryeong Thermal Power Plant No. 3 of Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. is the first standard coal thermal power plant that was designed, manufactured, constructed, and tested with Korean technology; using the advanced power plant's facility management system, excellent technological capacity, and systemic facility management, it was able to accomplish 5,000 days of operation without breakdowns (from December 17, 1998 to September 1, 2013), setting the new world record for the Longest Operation of Thermal Power Plant Without Breakdowns, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

  The Guinness World Record for the largest station by number of platforms is Grand Central Terminal, Park Avenue and 42nd Street, New York City, USA, built from 1903–13 which has 44 platforms.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Most powerful geothermal power station, set by the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Power Station in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico; it consists of five separate geothermal powerhouses, the first of which was commissioned in 1973. The total power generating capacity of this plant is 720 MW.

  "In addition, we built a system for real-time operation information for highly reliable operation of the facilities without breakdowns, according to Mr. Pyeong-rak Choi, President and CEO.

  "We also introduced equipment to diagnose the state of facilities and monitor main facilities in real time, which we continue to manage until today.

   "We also made efforts to share the knowledge and expertise we have on managing our facilities in a systematic manner. In addition, we developed an emergency response procedure that we still apply to our day-to-day operations until now. Moreover, we regularly provide professional training, systematically check facilities, and conduct preventive maintenance.

   "Thanks to such efforts made, we reached the world record of operating the plant without breakdowns for 5,000 days, that is, 14 years and 8 months, from December 17, 1998 to 2:19 p.m. of September 1, 2013 (Sun)."

  "The new record will greatly help us consolidate Korea's industrial competitiveness by supplying high-quality electric power at low cost to Korean industries that other energy sources cannot possibly match.
  Despite largely contributing to the stability of life, Korean power plant companies have low awareness externally.

  "We want to set a new world record to help us enhance our corporate publicity and image while also introduce the excellent technological capacity and operation infrastructure of Korea Midland Power to the world.
