  Largest biometric database: Emirates Identity Authority sets world record

Abu Dhabi, UAE -- The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has announced the possession of a giant database of civil-integrated biometrics within the UAE population register system, which includes a total of around 103 million decimal and rounded fingerprints as well as the prints of the palm, hand and hand side and over 15 million facial prints and digital signatures
- which sets the world record for the Largest number of integrated civil biometrics of rolled ten fingerprints, palms prints and writer's palms, facial and electronic signatures, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest DNA database was set by the The National DNA Index System (NDIS), created by the FBI (USA) in 1994 and which contained 8,201,707 offender profiles and 315,789 forensic profiles.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest active database of video games information, which is maintained by Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) of California, USA, and features 15,414,725 objectively quantifiable data points.

  "This achievement is one of the fruits that gained from UAE leaders' prudent decision to create the Emirates Identity Authority that aimed at developing an advanced system to manage the population register.

  "This is contributing to strengthening national and individual security in the state, as well as supporting the comprehensive development programmes in the country," Dr Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Director-General of the Eida, said.

  The world record made by the Eida is a new addition to the achievements in various fields that confirms the clear and future vision of the leadership of the state that ensures the success of this national and strategic project serving the supreme national objectives and the interests of the nation, he added.

  Dr Al Khouri added that providing a comprehensive database of inhabitants' fingerprints, will contribute and support projects related to Emirates National Vision 2021, aimed at enhancing the security and advancement of society, as well as supporting e-government projects through authenticating personal identity in e-transactions conducted over the Internet, thus contributing to hindering the risk of identity theft that increases day by day worldwide.
