The Guinness World Records' record for the most people riding a surfboard is 66, and was achieved by Visit Huntington Beach and the Epic Big Board Ride (both USA) in Huntington Beach, California, USA, on 20 June 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest line of surfboards; it consists of 608 surfboards and measures 1,123.28 m (3,685 ft 3.53 in), and was achieved by the City of Newcastle (Australia) at Nobbys Beach in Newcastle, Australia, on 15 February 2015.

The Guinness World Records world record was previously set in Queensland, Australia, about a decade ago, when 47 surfers managed a ride of 10 seconds.

A crowd of 5,000 spectators watched the group as they rode the board for 12 seconds.

The official rules for the World Record for "Most People Riding a Surfboard" include:
   • The board used for the attempt must be a scaled-up version of a traditional surfboard and be made of the same materials.
   • All participants must be standing on the surfboard and riding a wave unassisted for a period of at least 10 seconds.
   • The surfboard can be towed with all participants standing on it until it has gained enough momentum. The 10 seconds will start when the board is released and traveling unassisted.
   • Only participants who stay standing on the surfboard throughout the required 10 seconds will be counted towards the final record.

The board, designed by Nev Hyman, was loosely based around Simpson's regular, everyday, go-to model. Officially, the massive craft measured in at 42' 1/4" long, 11' 1" wide and 16" thick (and over 1,300 pounds). It was constructed by Rhode Island's mouldCAM, Orange County boatbuilder Westerly Marine and a handful of local shapers, The Surfline reports.
