The Guinness World Records' record for the most people riding a surfboard is 66, and was achieved by Visit Huntington Beach and the Epic Big Board Ride (both USA) in Huntington Beach, California, USA, on 20 June 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest line of surfboards; it consists of 608 surfboards and measures 1,123.28 m (3,685 ft 3.53 in), and was achieved by the City of Newcastle (Australia) at Nobbys Beach in Newcastle, Australia, on 15 February 2015.

The old Guinness World Records world record dated back to the 1980s, when Toen Joop Nederpelt, Holland's first windsurfer, got a sponsorship from Coca-Cola and produced an 18-meter plank for nine sailors.

Although there were 14 windsurf connected by wood boards - instead of a single plank - the group successfully managed to sail away, the Surfer Today reported.

With more than 500 members, the Plankenkoorts Student Windsurf Association is the largest windsurfing club in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1981.
