Longest motorcycle jump-world record set by Robbie Maddison

[March 29]MELBOURNE, Australia--Robbie Maddison jumped about 107m (346 feet ) and set the world record for the longest motorcycle jump.

Maddison hit the ramp at more than 165 km/h on his modified Honda CR500 motorbike. and rose over 20m in the air before making a safe landing for the record-breaking feat.

"I can't explain how amazing it is to smash my own world record in front of a home crowd," Maddison said. "I have been doing huge jumps and breaking personal records in training this week so I knew that I had it tonight, but nothing could have prepared me for how great this feels. "All my family and friends are here and the crowd was awesome."

The jump exceeded the 105.5m cleared by Maddison earlier this week in warm-ups for the stunt show, held at the same venue.    Tonight's jump was also nine metres further than the last official world record he set in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve

Maddison's feat comes just weeks after a nasty crash left him in hospital. He suffered a gash to his hip and a punctured stomach after crashing during a promotional jump at Melbourne's Docklands precinct three weeks ago.

Americans Seth Enslow and Rycan Capes were among the motorcyclists on show, at which there were world record attempts in nine events and six written into the history books.

UPDATE

DEDICATED motorbike fans at Calder Park were treated to an astonishing world record jump by Aussie Robbie Maddison.
Cold, wet conditions had threatened to derail the attempt, but 28,000 fans stayed on to watch the 26-year-old smash the 100m barrier with a jump of 107.29m.
Maddison jumped nine metres further than the last official world record he set in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. His speed reached 165km/h from a run up of more than 500m. Maddison's first jump was disastrous and he barely reached the landing mound. He blamed the cold air and its effects on his modified bike.
