The previous Guinness world record, set in Rossford, Ohio, was 26 hours.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people bouncing tennis balls on tennis rackets: 658 - achieved by Wilson Racquet Sports (USA) in advance of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, New York, USA.

"We wanted this to be a countywide effort," said Dennis Fraise, one of the organizers of the event, 'The Hawk Eye' reported.

"We recruited jumpers from each of the three high schools - L&M High School, Wapello High School and Columbus High School."

Though the jumpers ended the 27-hour marathon by bouncing together, they spent most of the time jumping alone.

Each teenager was assigned a 20-minute shift, and they continually rotated throughout the night. That only allowed each jumper two hours and 40 minutes between shifts.

"The rule is, there has to be continual jumping, so you have to get someone in, and get someone out," Fraise said.

The high school students passed the time watching TV, playing cards and taking catnaps, but catching a few z's can be tough when you only have a couple of hours to sleep.

Sponsored by the Louisa Development Group, the world record attempt also provided good press for Wapello Fabrications, which has produced bounce houses since 1974.

People also could sponsor part of the jump for $10, and their donations went toward the Louisa Development Group and the Louisa County Fair for their new youth building.
