  Longest line of surfboards: Newcastle has broken the Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

Nobbys Beach, Australia -- A total of 608 surfboards were lined up along Nobbys Beach, Australia, during the 30th anniversary edition of the Surfest, the largest surfing festival in the southern hemisphere; they smashed the previous Guinness World Records world record of 398 boards out of the water, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest line of surfboards consists of 398 surfboards and measures 783.5 m (2,570 ft 6.39 in) and was achieved by the City of Onkaparinga (Australia) at Port Noarlunga Beach, in Adelaide, Australia, on 14 December 2013.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the e largest surfboard logo; it was a peace sign consisting of 230 participants on surfboards at an event organised by the National Resource Defense Council, Utopia Entertainment and Kelly Chapman Meyer (all USA) at Paradise Cove in Malibu, California, USA, on 4 June 2011. The event was organised to raise awareness about threats to ocean health.

    The attempt was made to commemorate the 30th birthday of annual surfing festival Surfest.
   Surfest is the largest surfing festival in the southern hemisphere and brings more than 800 national and international competitors to the city.

    The previous Guinness World Records record stood at 398 surfboards, i.e., 783.5 meters of lined up boards, and it was achieved in 2014, at Port Noarlunga Beach, in Adelaide.

    The longest line up of boards included shortboards, longboards, shortboards, kneeboards, malibus, stand up paddle boards, nipper boards and multiple surf crafts.

    Newcastle City Council's surveyor Nathan Ironfield and his team measured the line at about 1.13 kilometres.

    The organisers were originally aiming to form a chain of 500 boards, but this was soon surpassed with a wide variety of wave riding equipment including SUP's, short boards, kneeboards and longboards.
