  Longest journey kitesurfing by a male: Francisco Lufinha breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

MADEIRA ISLAND, Portugal -- Portuguese kitesurfer Francisco Lufinha has completed an attempt to break the Guinness World Records world record for longest journey kitesurfing by a male; Lufinha's effort was non-stop when he sailed off the Portuguese coast from Lisbon toward Madeira Island on July 5-7, covering 472 nm and setting the new world record for the Longest journey kite surfing (male), according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest kitesurfing journe y is 446 nautical miles (826 km; 513 statute miles) and was achieved by Rimas Kinka (USA) who travelled from Jacksonville, Florida, USA to Key West, Florida, USA, from 5 to 8 February 2015.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest journey by canoe or kayak; it was made by Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton (UK) who paddled 2010 miles (3234.79 km) from the confluence of the Rio Maranon and Rio Ucayali, Peru to St. John in the Amazon Delta, Brazil from 20 January to 28 February 2010

     Lufinha had hoped to sail a longer distance of 530 nm and finish at Madeira Island but had to stop short due to extreme fatigue, needing to travel the final miles by boat.
