  Largest wave surfed: Garrett McNamara breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Nazaré, Portugal -- The Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara have broken his own Guinness world record for the largest wave surfed when he caught a wave reported to be around 100ft off the coast of Nazaré, Portugal; Garrett McNamara have set a new world record for the Largest wave surfed , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

  Guinness World Records recognized his previous world record for the largest wave surfed: 23.77 m (78 feet), measured from trough to crest, achieved off the coast of Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal.

The Guinness world record for the Most surfboards stacked on a car was set by a group of surfers (USA) who successfully stacked a total of 282 surfboards on top of a car and drove 30.4 m (100 ft ) near Santa Barbara, California, USA.

   McNamara, who was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts but whose family moved to Hawaii's North Shore when he was aged 11, has beaten his previous record, which was also set at Nazaré.

  McNamara have broken his old Guinness world record due to an epic still photograph captured by surf photographer Tó Mané.

It was part of the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards and a teaser for the event appears to show McNamara catching the big one.
