Largest physical education class: Ga. students set world record

  ATLANTA, Ga., USA--The Atlanta Falcons invited area students to a phys ed class at the Georgia Dome; with 2,288 schoolchildren completing a half-hour workout, they set the new world record for the Largest physical education class .

  Stephanie Blank, wife of Falcons owner Arthur Blank, told AtlantaFalcons.com: "The Atlanta Falcons are committed to making sure children in Atlanta and all over the country get excited about exercise. Our message is that it's cool to exercise. It's good for you. It's fun. I think, over time, that people get the message that this is what we should be doing."

  Falcons players and cheerleaders and members of the military joined the kids on the Georgia Dome field, where they worked out to music pumping out of the stadium's loudspeakers as they were led by an instructor telecast on the video boards. The session was shared at schools across the United States via a webcast.

  An adjudicator from the Guinness World Records verified that 2,288 elementary and middle students from across the metro area gathered at the Georgia Dome, setting the record for the largest virtual physical education class .

  The previous Guinness world record for the
Largest physical education class was previously held by the Washington Redskins, who had 646 students at FedExField in Landover, Md.
