 Largest outdoors spinning class: fitness fans sets world record

Tewkesbury, UK -- A total of 264 people took part in an outdoor spinathon at Tewkesbury Park Hotel at the weekend - setting the new world record for the Largest outdoors spinning class, while raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

  People paid £20 to take part and the event has raised nearly £4,000.

The Guinness world record for the most people spinning tops simultaneously is 377 in an event organised by Mani Limited at the Tuen Mun Town Plaza (China) in Hong Kong, China.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people spinning a basketball simultaneously; it was achieved by 104 participants in an event organised by Cheshire Jets Basketball Club at Ellesmere Port Catholic High in Chester, UK.

  Groups of 44 people took part in six back-to-back classes on the tennis courts with the help of instructors. Each class lasted around 55 minutes.

  Members have held charity spinathons before at the hotel but never outdoors.

  Organiser Steve Probert said: "We have done it in previous years and the most we have managed before is about 25 people.

 "But this year Fitness First donated some spinning bikes and we decided to raise money for the charity. People from Tewkesbury Park and other gyms took part. We also had a raffle on the day. It was a lot of fun."

  He added he wanted to thank other sponsors, the Multi-Room Company, Yamaha and Thai Emerald restaurant.

  Other sponsors for the event included Sainsbury's, Morrisons and McDonalds, which donated bags of fruit.
