  Largest hula hoop workout: Del Rey School breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

ORINDA, CA, USA -- Some 402 students (kindergarten through fifth grade Dolphins) hooped it up at Del Rey Elementary School in Orinda, after practicing their routine for a month with PE teacher Cheryl Collins, who choreographed a five-minute workout set to the song "Let's Go," during an event organized by Eric Menke, setting the new world record for the Largest hula hoop workout, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the largest hula hoop workout consisted of 290 participants at an event organised by Michelle Clinage (USA) at Allen Elementary School in Hutchinson, Kansas, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest hula hoop; it has a diameter of 5.04 m (16 ft 6.7 in) and was spun three and three quarter consecutive times by Ashrita Furman (USA) at Hillcrest High School in New York, New York, USA.

  "They're all moving and that's what it's all about," said phys ed teacher Cheryl Collins, who has been working with individual PE classes for a month getting down the steps to dance and hula to Chris Brown's 'Let's Go."

  School parent and event organizer Eric Menke purchased the hoops himself and donated them to the school.

  The students practiced their routine for a month with PE teacher Cheryl Collins, who choreographed a five-minute workout set to the song "Let's Go." Collins even donated time during her days off to include the kindergarten classes.

  After the event, the hula hoops were donated to a Bay Area charity.
