  Farthest Mobile Phone Throw: Ben Langton-Burnell breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Wellington, New Zealand -- Massey University Bachelor of AgriCommerce student Ben Langton-Burnell, a member of the Massey Academy of Sport, threw the Nokia N5 120.65m, setting the new world record for the Farthest Mobile Phone Throw, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

 The Guinness world record for the farthest distance that a mobile (cell) phone has been thrown by a male competitor is 95.83 m (314 ft 5 in) by Chris Hughff (UK) at the 2007 UK Mobile Throwing Championships.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people in a mobile phone game relay: 2,030, achieved by Nokia (Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mr Langton-Burnell got the idea to attempt the world record after seeing it on Facebook, and decided to give it a try after his own cell phone broke.

  The javelin thrower, a member of the Massey Academy of Sport, threw the Nokia N5 120.65m, beating the previous Guinness world record and the current world record by 17.96m.

  Mr Langton-Burnell had six attempts, beating the world record mark on his first attempt then throwing further with a subsequent throw.

  While pleased with the record, Mr Langton-Burnell says it will be the last time he throws a phone.

  "My cell phone throwing days are over, now I've broken the record," he says.
