 Most bridesmaids for a bride: Sri Lankan couple breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

NEGOMBO, Sri Lanka -- A Sri Lankan couple has broken the Guinness World Records' record for the world's biggest wedding after walking down the aisle with a staggering 126 bridesmaids; Nisansala and Nalin tied the knot in the country's capital Colombo, sharing their big day with an additional 25 best men, 20 page boys and 23 flower girls, setting the new world record for the Most bridesmaids for a bride, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the Most bridesmaids to one bride was set by bride Christa Rasanayagam (Canada) who married Arulanantham Suresh Joachim (Sri Lanka) at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada on 6 September 2003, accompanied by 79 bridesmaids, aged 1 to 79.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest underwater wedding; it was achieved by 303 divers who attended the marriage ceremony between Ewa Staronska and Pawel Burkowski (both Poland) during an event organised by Orka Group Ltd (Poland) at the Koparki Diving Base, Jaworzno, Poland.

  Including 126 bridesmaids, 25 best men, 20 page boys and 23 flower girls the wedding breaks the previous world record, held by a wedding in Bangkok that included 96 bridesmaids.

  he record-breaking couple married today in Negombo, some 30kms north of Colombo.

  The army of maids was dressed by Nisansala's sister-in-law, Champi Siriwardana, who suggested the couple attempt the world record.

  The wedding party wore traditional embroidered costumes of purple and gold for the ceremony.

  The huge nuptials were also attended by Sri Lanka's First Lady, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

  She said: "Breaking the Guinness World Records' record is no mean feat and one that I cannot achieve alone.

 "It is a great responsibility and challenge. There can be no mistakes."
