  Longest hair extension: college students have broken Guinness world record

Birmingham, UK -- South Gloucestershire and Stroud College employees Sally Hathaway, Alison Pannett, Ayshea Knapp and Rita Trott and students Ellie Stuart and Anna Watkins managed to create a hair extension totalling 361.4 metres in lengt which was put on show at The Skills Show at the NEC Birmingham; it sets the new world record for the Longest hair extension, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the longest hair extension was 294.49 m (966 ft 2 in) and was achieved by Sarina Russo (Australia) at the Sydney Convention and Exhibitions Centre, Sydney, Australia.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest documented hair; it belongs to Xie Qiuping (China) at 5.627 m (18 ft 5.54 in) when measured on 8 May 2004. She has been growing her hair since 1973 from the age of 13.

   The college representatives encouraged thousands of people at show to play a part in breaking the Guinness world record, which previously stood at 294.49m and was achieved in Sydney in 2010.

  It took seven hours to complete the hair extension, which was attached to Ms Hathaway's 22-year-old daughter Jade Bryer and was measured during a ceremony on the stage, according to This is Bristol.

  Ms Hathaway, from Portishead, said: "I wanted to attempt this challenge a couple of years ago when the record was 30 metres."
