Largest vow renewal party: John and Kimberly Dilosa sets world record

MARRERO, LA, USA -- John and Kimberly Dilosa of Harvey celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in record-breaking style during their vow renewal ceremony at Café Hope in Marrero; with a crew of 140, the couple has broken the world record for the largest vow renewal party, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the Most weddings in a TV soap was set by the British TV soap opera Coronation Street, with a total of 76 wedding ceremonies.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest bridal wedding veil: 3,358 metres (11,017 ft 0.5 in) long, which was worn by Sandra Mechleb at her wedding to Chady Abi Younis (both Lebanon) in Arnaoon, Lebanon.

"I feel wonderful," John Dilosa said. "First of all, we're representing marriage, and we're doing something that's normally done every weekend, and we're going in a record book, a history book, the Book of World Records. That's phenomenal."

Soul mates and best friends, John and Kimberly Dilosa are well respected in the Greater New Orleans circuit for their tireless and creative efforts in the area of youth mentoring.

"We didn't want a traditional wedding. We wanted it to mean something. Since we've been married, we've been giving back to the community, and we wanted the vow renewal to reflect that," said Kimberly who in 1997 founded the YOUTHanasia Foundation, which has since served as a mentoring beacon for hundreds of local youth.

Kimberly Dilosa is the founder of several service organizations, including The Teen Center for Non-Violence, Divas Curing Teen Violence, teenzMatter Productions and YOUTHanasia Foundation, Inc.

Through these organizations, the Dilosas inspire low-income and at-risk youth by providing free summer camp programs, enrichment programs, life skills classes and substance abuse prevention activities, among others.

The couple will give money donated during the wedding ceremony to several local charities, including Café Hope and the New Orleans Recreation Department, specifically Behrman Gymnasium in Algiers.

Kimberly Dilosa said the event also serves as a reminder that marriage still exists.

"Right now in our society, it seems like marriage is becoming extinct, and it seems like the institution is being put on the back burner," she said.
"I want them to see that marriage is something that's beautiful and sacred and it should be celebrated. I don't feel like it's an institution that's celebrated enough."
