  Largest speed mixer event: Singapore breaks Guinness world record

SINGAPORE -- A total of 485 singles turned up at a dinner and dance at the Marina Bay Sands for the Masquerade Ball, organized by the marriage-promoting Social Development Network (SDN); the event sets the new world record for the Largest speed mixer event, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy. com/.

Guinness World Records recognized the world record for the Largest speed mixer event set by The Buried Life with Verizon Wireless Careers and The University of South Florida Center for Student Involvement (USA) on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, USA; it consisted of 288 participants.

 The Guinness world record for the largest underwater wedding was achieved by 303 divers who attended the marriage ceremony between Ewa Staronska and Pawel Burkowski (both Poland) at the Koparki Diving Base, Jaworzno, Poland.

  Organised by the marriage-promoting Social Development Network (SDN), the Masquerade Ball broke the Guinness world record for having the most number of singles participating in a speed-dating activity in one place.

  The previous world record stood at 435 singles and was set by a private organization in South Africa on Valentine's Day 2011.

  In the Singapore event, singles were randomly placed on tables of ten and treated to dinner. A healthy mix of young and old singles socialised and made merry.

  After the dinner, the speed-dating activity began and participants would take a minute or two to quickly chat up the person next to them before moving on to the next.

  The ball in Marina Bay Sands capped the end to five weeks of festivities by the government-backed SDN to encourage singles to socialise.
