  Greatest distance traveled on a slide in one hour: Memphis breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

MEMPHIS, TN, USA -- The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy organized a slip and slide competition where volunteers attempted to break the Guinness World Records' record for the greatest distance traveled on a continuous slip and slide; the mission was accomplished, and Memphis is the new slip and slide champ , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

  The Guinness World Records' record for the most people down a water slide in one hour is 213 and was achieved by the City of Madison (USA) at Crystal Beach Pool in Madison, Indiana, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest distance travelled on a slip and slide in one hour; it was 25,017.98 m (82,080 ft), and was achieved by students at the University of Oregon (USA) in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy organized a slip and slide competition where volunteers attempted to break the Guinness World Records' record for the greatest distance traveled on a continuous slip and slide.

 Officials from Guinness World Records were there to log the distance in the one hour attempt.

 "Boise State set a record in 2010 that was about 3,500 feet so we're aiming for 4,000," said Rebecca Dailey.

  The mission was accomplished, and Memphis is the new slip and slide champ.

  Though fun, the competition was a lot of work. It took a few weeks to get the layout just right and organizers say Memphis Pool helped construct and design it.
