 Most expensive sheepdog: Bob the sheepdog breaks Guinness world record

SKIPTON, UK -- Bob the sheepdog, a 15-month-old black and white male was sold at Skipton Auction Mart by John Bell, 82, a retired farmer of Howden, East Yorks, for a massive $14,000 (£9,240), setting the new world record for the Most expensive working sheepdog, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the largest dog obedience lesson involved 390 dogs and was achieved by Felcan (Spain) at Mossen Sorribes Park in Rocafort, Valencia, Spain.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most dogs in costumed attire at a single location; it is 1,326 and was achieved by Nestle Purina Pet Care (USA) at the Beggin' Pet Parade in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA.

  It is the highest price paid for a working sheep dog at an official sale, smashing the previous world record of 8,000gns (£8,400), also set at Skipton in October 2012.

   The 15-month-old was sold by retired farmer John Bell, 82, of Howden, East Yorkshire, who has now had three world record sales in the last three years.

   "He has brilliant character but it wasn't his character he was bought for, it's his ability. His ability made him stand out. 'He is a very good dog, everybody who saw him thought the same. I had him 12 months and I do train them over a longer period and I do have my own method," Mail Online reported.

  "He has been working since he was nine months old. He is a natural and I was expecting a lot of him," said Mr Bell, who, in his younger days, was an accomplished runner and played rugby for North Ribblesdale.

  The buyer was a telephone bidder, who requested anonymity, though it is understood that the dog is destined for a new home in the United States, the Craven Herald reported.
