      Most people stepping on grapes simultaneously - Labastida sets world record

      LABASTIDA, Alava, Spain -- The Merchants Association of Innkeepers, along with the Council of Labastida , gathered 977 people together to simultaneously tread grapes - setting the new world record for the     Most people stepping on grapes simultaneously .

     The previous Guinness World record for the     Most people stepping on grapes simultaneously was set in Australia, with 570 people.

    The participants were stepping on the grapes more than 3 minutes to allow the notary on site to count them.

    There was a huge recipient prepared for the occasion 92 Feet and 32 Feet wide. More than 10.000 kg of grapes were poured in.

    The event was organized by the local association of storekeepers and drink industry together with the City Council.

     The new record attempt took place in the town's Plaza de la Paz, though a variety of different festive activities were held throughout the day, including wine-tasting, a popular lunch, pelota matches and games for children.

    The deputy mayor of Labastida, Iosu Landa, Efe has shown "great joy" of the City Council and all residents of Labastida on this record and thanked all who participated.
