 Most people in a thumb-wrestling chain: Tilgate school pupils set world record

TILGATE, West Sussex, UK -- 331 pupils from The Oaks Primary school and their siblings, parents and teachers played thumb wrestling for five minutes - setting the new world record for the Most people in a thumb-wrestling chain, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the most people in a thumb wrestling chain is 310 and was achieved by Enjoy-Work at Chiswick Park, London, UK.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people in a human-soft toy chain; it included 2,623 people each with a soft toy and was achieved in an event organised by the JJ van der Merwe Primary School in Ermelo, South Africa.

  All the participants had to play the game – a favourite in school playgrounds – for five minutes in a continuous chain.

  According to 'This is Sussex:' "teacher Chris McGivern, who starred in a Crawley episode of Channel 4 cooking show Come Dine With Me earlier this year, came up with the idea."

  The world record attempt began with everyone lining up around the edge of the school playground. Hands were then linked and a head count was taken.

  When it was realised that more people were needed to break the record extra parents, there to watch, were called over to take part.

  Then the chant used to begin the game was made, with everyone shouting: "One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war."

  At the end Mr McGivern gave a ten-second countdown, ending with screams of delight as zero was reached.
