SIREN, WI, USA -- To mark the 10th anniversary of the Siren
tornado, local residents held a number of events to mark the anniversary; 215 people in sunflowers costumes set the new world record for the Most people dressed as Sunflowers
.
The Guinness world record for the tallest sunflower was 8.03 m (26 ft 4 in) tall when measured in Kaarst-Voorst, Germany, and belongs to Hans-Peter Schiffer (Germany).
Guinness World Records also recognized the largest gathering of people dressed as mobile phones: 275 participants, for an event organised in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
10 years ago, the Siren tornado tore through Burnett and Washburn Counties, killing three and destroying many homes and businesses.
Organizers say sunflowers bloomed everywhere after the tornado hit, so they became a symbol of the spirit in Siren, as the village started to rebuild.
