The idea was to get as many Trekkies (or
indeed Trekkers) as possible to turn up at London’s Millennium
Bridge, dressed authentically as a Star Trek character, on
Valentine’s Day.
Ninety-nine fans appeared at the event,
costumed as Klingons, Cardassians, Mirror-Universe characters,
Vulcans, Borg and Federation officers from various Star Trek
eras , setting the world record for the Most
people dressed as Star Trek characters
.
"We spend so much on costumes, [but]
there are very few places where you can actually wear them,"
explained Kraag Komaq Linkasa, a nattily dressed Klingon.
"We're standing outside the Tate Modern in Klingon uniform.
When else could you do that, apart from an event like this?"
“The turnout today was nothing short of
fantastic,” said Namco Bandai Head of Public Relations Lee
Kirton. “We’re absolutely delighted to have been involved
in this world record for the Most
people dressed as Star Trek characters
, and it’s
a testament to the Star Trek fans’ amazing dedication that
so many turned out on Valentine’s Day.”

Star Trek fan and professional Jean-Luc Picard impersonator
Giles Aston assisted the judges in authenticating the costumes.
Namco Bandai has extended their thanks
to every individual who attended: “In the words of Mr. Spock,
'Live long and prosper.'”
Guinness World Records (Gamer’s Edition)
Editor Gaz Deaves encouraged other Star Trek fans worldwide
to try to surpass yesterday’s new record. ““We’re pleased
to kick off this category here in London and hope other Star
Trek fans around the world will come forward to break this
record again,” he said.
The Millennium Bridge is a popular location
for world record attempts and similar publicity stunts.
